Jacob Kern, III, 67,of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at 3:00AM at his residence. He was born December 27, 1939, in Milford Junction, IN, to Jacob Jr. and Magdelene (Harter) Kern.
On May 6, 1961, he married Susan Morganthaler; she survives.
A lifetime area resident, Jacob was the previous owner of Wawasee Bowl Bowling Alley, Ford Mechanic and a Heavy Equipment Operator with Carl Freel, owner of Firestone Construction. He attended Grace Lutheran Church in Syracuse. Jacob was a previous member of several bowling leagues and a member of the Eagles in Syracuse. He was also previously active in farming and loved John Deere Tractors.
Survivors include his wife: Susan Kern of Syracuse, 2 Sons: David E. (Mary) Kern of Syracuse, Daniel J. Kern of Columbia City, 1 Daughter: Deborah A. Kern of Syracuse, 7 Grandsons, 1 Granddaughter, 1 Sister: Judy K. (Charles) Jones of Anderson and 1 Brother: Jeffrey M. (Brenda) Kern of Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007, at 1:30PM, at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse. Pastor Richard Dunning will officiate. Burial will be at the Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, from 5-8PM at the funeral home.
