Delmer L. “Ben” Baker, 97, of Ft. Meyers Beach, FL, formerly of Lake Tippecanoe, passed away at Shady Rest Care Pavilion on April 27, 2007. He was born on July 30, 1909 in Sydney, IN, to Ben F. and Elsie (Gross) Baker.
He married Cleo M. Ellis in 1930, she preceded him in death in 1968. He married Joanne (Deakne) Thornton on August 5, 1970. She survives.
Delmer moved to Lake Tippecanoe from Ft. Wayne, IN in 1954 and resided at Ft. Meyers Beach, FL, for the last 2 years. Ben and his wife Joan had been, “Snowbirds” for 34 years.
Howard owned and operated Tippecanoe Marina until 1968 and the Tippy Moble Home Court until 2000.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge in Warsaw, and Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine in Ft. Wayne.
Howard is survived by his wife, daughter Judy (Michael) Rans of South Bend, stepdaughter Laura Lee Lovell of Alexandria, VA, 2 grandchildren: Christopher Kuehl of Minn., and Kimberly Daughtery of San Antonio, TX, and 7 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home Harris Chapel and will be officiated by Pastor Larry Kurtz of Faith UMC in Elkhart. There will be Masonic service. Burial will be at North Webster Cemetery, Mock Addition.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM prior to the service on Wednesday, May 2, 2007.
