Hilary Dale “Moose” Walterhouse, 81, of Bremen passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka following a short illness. He was born July 24, 1930 in Bremen to Jake & Mary Mildred (Myers) Walterhouse. On
December 22, 1957 he married Susan Edna McMillan, she survives.
Moose graduated from Bremen High School in 1948 and then from Indiana University, earning a Bachelors and a Masters degree. While at IU he rode in 4 Little 500 bicycle races and his Sigma Nu team won in 1957. He was a US Army Veteran; he served in Korea where he saw Marilyn Monroe.
His careers were varied and enjoyed, working as a kinesio/corrective therapist in several Midwest VA hospitals, he was a teacher in school systems in the Midwest. He enjoyed playing with cars by selling them for Bremen Ford-Mercury and driving them for Downie Motors. Most of all he loved his church and his family.
Moose is survived by his wife Susan of Bremen, 3 sons: Kent Walterhouse of Wolcottville, Tom (Debbie) Walterhouse of Kendallville, and Marty (Desirae) of Hutchinson, MN, 5 grandsons: Scott, Brian, Jake, Jax & Kai, 3 granddaughters: Lydia, Abby & Paisley, and sister Phyllis Sahlhoff of Bremen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a precious son Scott Bennett Walterhouse.
A memorial service for Moose will be held at 4PM on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bremen and will be officiated by Pastor Neil Wonnacott. Burial will take place at a later date.
Please visit with the family from 1PM to 5PM on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the family’s home. Friends may also call 1 hour before the service on Sunday at the church.
