Verna Payne

Verna Payne, age 90, of Indianapolis, formerly of Bremen, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2007, at the Community Hospital South, Greenwood, IN. She was born on June 25, 1917, in Bremen, IN, to Edward & Edith (Cripe) Balsley.

On July 30, 1938, she married Chester Payne. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1985.

A longtime Bremen resident, Verna moved to an Indianapolis retirement community in 1999. She was a seamstress at Kimble Furs in Bremen for 31 years. She was also a lifelong Member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include 2 Daughters: Carol (John) Winkler of Indianapolis and Jean (Phillip) Napier of Thomasville, GA, 1 Son: William Payne of Thomasville, GA, 3 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Her husband Chester, and 2 Grandsons: James & Jason Napier.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at 1:00PM, at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen. Pastor William Garver will officiate. Burial will take place at Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 11am – 1pm Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
