Glennis Birkey Reidenbach, age 89, wife of her beloved husband of 69 years, Philip Reidenbach, went peacefully to be with her Lord on February 26, 2012.
Glennis was born on March 20, 1922, in Fisher, IL, the daughter of the late Gilgian Andrew “Gip” and Verda Smeltzer Birkey. She married Philip Osborn Reidenbach on December 24, 1942. Glennis grew up in Bremen, and graduated from Bremen High School and attended Goshen College. She was very active in Grace United Methodist Church serving as financial secretary as well as director and teacher of Sunday school. She helped organize Project Help and REAL Services, was a volunteer at Bremen Community Hospital serving as president of the Hospital Auxiliary, and was on the Community Holy Walk Committee for 25 years. During WWII she worked as a Rosie the Riveter in California and later was a long-time co-owner of Tot-N-Teen Togs, a children’s clothing store, in Bremen, IN. Most precious to her was her family to whom she was continually devoted. She enjoyed cooking, playing games, tending her flowers, travelling, and helping others. She was predeceased by her sisters, Betty Shoup, Darlene Byler, and Jane Hostetler.
Survivors include her husband of Conway, SC; two sons, Richard (Barbara) Reidenbach of Indianapolis, IN, Steven (Mary) Reidenbach of Bremen, IN; one daughter, Susan (Dennis) Wiseman of Conway, SC; six grandchildren, Lynn (Dan) Rodenbeck, David (Trish) Reidenbach, Erica Reidenbach, Kelly Reidenbach, Matthew (Sarah) Wiseman, Andrew Wiseman; nine great-grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan and Hannah Darst, Sam and Ella Reidenbach, Alexis, Bailey, Carson and Devlin Wiseman; one sister Carol Boyer of Bremen, IN and one brother, Robert Birkey of Plymouth, IN.
The family is indebted to the doctors and staff of Mercy Care Hospice in Myrtle Beach, SC, and the Center for Hospice in Plymouth, IN, who gave her special care and comfort during her decline in health.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 3, at Bremen United Methodist Church, Bremen, IN directed by Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, IN.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
