Miriam Ritter

Miriam “Toddy” Gottenborg Ritter, 84 of Bremen, Indiana passed away suddenly at 3:50 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2012 in the Community Hospital of Bremen. She was born on May 14, 1927 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Peder and Winnifred (Richardson) Gottenborg.

Miriam graduated from Detroit Lakes, MN High School and Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. She later attended the University of Minnesota and Indiana University of South Bend. While in Minnesota, she enjoyed her teaching career in Red Wing, MN. She married Frederick W. Ritter, Jr. and in 1954, they moved to Bremen, IN. After moving to Bremen, Miriam enjoyed raising her family, and remained active in her community. She was the donor of the Ritter Family Scholarship, providing a grant to a Bremen High School graduate for vocational education. She also was a donor for an endowed scholarship for an Indiana student studying at Macalester College and supported several other colleges. Toddy was also a dedicated donor to The Foundation Fighting Blindness.


Miriam is survived by two sons Rock (Colette) Ritter and Philip (Sandra) Ritter, both of Indianapolis, IN and two grandsons Grant Ritter and Drake Ritter, both of Bloomington, IN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred and her “middle button,” David “Stoney” Ritter.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 2 to 6 pm at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, IN.

Miriam will be buried in her beloved home state of Minnesota. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen Public Library, Bremen, IN; or The Foundation Fighting Blindness.
