Herbert L. Zechiel, 86, of Wyatt, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2007, at his residence. He was born on August 30, 1921, in Benton Harbor, MI, to LeRoy & Mildred Zechiel.
He married Ruth Kline on October 10, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland. She survives.
A lifetime Wyatt area resident, Herbert was a Farmer and worked at Bremen Bearings. He was a waist gunner on a B17 with the Flying Fortress in the Army-Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion, Farm Bureau and past treasurer of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland for many years.
Survivors include his wife: Ruth, 1 daughter: Kay (Bob) Harrell, of Maineville, OH, 2 sons: Lee (Susan) Zechiel, of Gurnee, IL, and Rev. Tim (Marie) Zechiel, of Steelville, IL, 7 grandchildren: Brian (Chris) Zechiel of Gurnee, IL, Darren (Niki) Zechiel of Spring, TX, Jennifer (Josh) Elledge of Holland, MI, Katie (Sean) Bradley of Provo, UT, Briana (Douglas) Schwartz of Decatur, IN, Charissa (Aaron) Volkert of Woodburn, IN, Erin (Shaun) Seitz of Coldwater, OH, and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Robert and Carl Zechiel.
Services will be held Friday, November 30, 2007, at 11:00AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland. Rev. Karl Brenner will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Woodland. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8PM Thursday at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen and one hour before the service at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland.
