Gordon L. Yeager

Gordon "Gordy" Yeager, 56, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville. He was born on September 28, 1951, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Herman & Alice (Johnson) Yeager.

Gordy was a lifetime resident of Noble County and a graduate of West Noble in 1969. Upon graudation, until 1974, he was successful in owning his own business, Ligonier Sanitation, as well as farming. He served on the Ligonier Fire Department for twelve years and drove bus for the West Noble School Corporation for twenty years. He was an active member of the Ligonier Elks Club, serving all chair positions and achieving the Exalted Ruler in 1999. He was also an accomplished pilot, receiving his private rating in 1981 and his IFR rating in 1996.

Gordy began his funeral home service career in 1974, when he joined Orr Funeral Home in Ligonier. In 1983, he went to work for Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home in Ligonier and remained there until July of 2006. In January, 2007, Gordy became a full-time member of the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, and also was the owner of the new Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier. He always aspired to meet the needs of his community and had a natural ability to connect with and console the bereaved.

Survivors include 1 son: Christopher L. Yeager of Sturgis, MI, his Life partner: Ruthann Richards of Topeka, his Sister: Eileen (James) Gingerich of Syracuse, his Brother: Roger (Judy) Yeager of Baltimore, MD, 2 grandchildren: Brooke & Conner, both of Sturgis, MI, additional loving family: Mike (Laurie) Cunningham of Topeka, Kim Cunningham of CA, Dawn (David) Irmshcher of Fort Wayne, Justin, Jarod & Jenna Cunningham all of Topeka, Heather Fausnaugh of CA & Ryan Fausnaugh of Fort Wayne. He was preceded by his Parents, sister: Julia Ann Riddle.

Services will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2007, at 2:00PM, at Stones Hill Community Church, 151 W Stones Hill Road, Ligonier. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Topeka. Pastors Harold Gingerich and Joey Nelson will officiate. Friends may call on Friday, December 21, from 5-8PM, and Saturday, December 22, from 2-4 & 6-8PM at West Noble Middle School, SR 5, South of Ligonier.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wawaka Alumni Foundation or Perry & Elkhart Township 4H Club.
