Helen G. Alfrey, 86, died on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at 12:15AM in Tampa, FL.
She was born on December 27, 1920, in Wingate, to Jesse P. and Mildred (McCullough) Graves. She married Harry D. (Jack) Alfrey on April 13, 1940. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Mrs. Alfrey is survived by two daughters, Dian (John) Holdeman of Syracuse and Alice (Gordon) Love of Tampa, FL; two sons Harry (Roberta) Alfrey of Granger and Carl (Judie) Alfrey of Ocala, FL; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Branigan of Crawfordsville. She was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Fuller and one brother, Richard Graves.
As a resident of the Syracuse/Wawasee community for over 50 years, she served on the boards of the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation and the Wawasee Property Owners' Association, was instrumental in the formation of the St. Andrew's Methodist Thrift Shop and the Syracuse Youth Center, and among her many community involvements, volunteered at The Goshen General Hospital. She was a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church and Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.
Memorials may be give to the Hospice of choice, the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation or St. Andrews Methodist Church in Syracuse.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 12:00PM at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Friends may call prior to the service from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at the church.
