David Whitaker, age 80, of Bremen, formerly of Lakeville, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at St. Joe Regional Medical Center in South Bend. He was born May, 10, 1925 in Ivyton, KY to David Whitaker Sr. and Daisy (Marshall)Hampton.
David was a retired machinist for Dodge Manufacturing in Mishawaka after 35 years. After retiring, he worked for Deck Manufacturing in Granger. He was a member of Southside General Baptist Church in Mishawaka, a US Army WW II Veteran receiving the Purple Heart and was among the last members of the Horse Calvary. He was a member of the VFW Post 360 in Mishawaka.
In 1946 he married Georgia Mae Church. She preceded him in death October 23, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter: Helen (Ed) Hollan of Bremen, 2 Sons: Chuck (Pam) Whitaker of Lakeville, Kenny Whitacker of Bremen, 15 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are 10 Brothers and Sisters. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife Georgia, and a Daughter Joyce Whitaker-Long.
Services will be held 11:00AM Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Southside General Baptist Church in Mishawaka. Pastor Jeff Little will officiate. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 2-8PM Friday at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Southside General Baptist Church, 1615 S. Spring St., Mishawaka, IN 46544.
