James R. Howard, 63, of Syracuse, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born on July 6, 1944, in Goshen, to Roscoe & Bernice (Robinson) Howard.
A lifetime area resident, James was an attorney in Syracuse for many years and was a previous Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Kosciusko County. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1963. He graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Business Administration, a Masters in Education and a Doctorate of Juris Prudence from the IU School of Law in Indianapolis. He was a member of the Indiana State Bar Assocation and the Kosciusko County Bar Association. He was very active in Kosciusko County Republican Politics; serving as Precinct Committeeman and was inducted into the Republican Hall of Fame of the Kosciusko County Republican Party. He was a member of the Rotary, an accomplished photographer who won high awards and prizes in several National Kodak Photography contests and was an avid rock climber. James visited Yosemite National Park every year for climbing and photography.
Several close friends, including Barbara Berke Grant of Syracuse, survive.
No calling or services are planned. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery at a later date.
