Ellen Elizabeth Hardin Walker, 99, a resident of Union County, IL, for over eighty years, died in Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Syracuse, Indiana, at 12:30AM, Saturday, March 29, 2008. She was born on November 30, 1908, in Cobden, IL, to Herbert and Estella (Vancil) Hardin. She earned her LPN in 1956 while working at Anna State Hospital and continued working in the nursing field until age 73. She was initiated into the Eastern Star Chapter in Cobden, IL, February 18, 1927, and was the oldest living member of that Chapter. Elizabeth was a life long memebr of the Cobden First Presbyterian Church. She married Willard C. Walker on January 27, 1929, in the First Presbyterian Church in Anna, IL. They farmed near Anna, IL, and had six children: Betty Joyce (Backus, Johnston), Ruth Joan (Mull), Willard (Bill) Jr., Lindell (Corky), Sandra (Pender) and Kay (Dabler). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 older daughters, Betty & Joan, two sons-in-law, Fred Mull, Ferrell Pender, two daughters-in-law, Hattie (Smith) Walker, Beverly (Miles) Walker. Surviving are four children: Willard (LaNora) Walker, Cobden, IL; Lindell (Linda) Walker, Lake of Egypt, Marion, IL; Sandra Pender, Marion, IL; Kay (Jack) Dabler, North Webster, IN; 19 grandchildren: Jay Johnston, Linda (Backus) Valee, Jay Mull, JoEllen (Mull) Perkins, Gary Mull, Roger Mull, Paula Walker, Carroll (Carrie) Walker, Ruth (Dale) Sawyer, Jim (Cindy) Walker, Bob Walker, Todd Walker, Beth (Blaine) Brunkhorst, Dan (Debbie) Pender, Kevin (Mikki) Pender, Bill (Angie) Pender, Rick (Sherry) Pender, Mike (Colleen) Dabler, and Tim (Tia) Dabler. 26 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at Rendleman & Hileman funeral home in Cobden. Memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Cobden, IL. Local arrangements were handled by Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse.
