Arthur E. Hiester, 85, of Bremen passed away on April 3, 2008 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend of natural causes. He was born September 20, 1922 in Bremen, Indiana to C.N. & Jennie (Arnold) Hiester. He was a lifetime Bremen resident. On November 8, 1947 he married Pat (Ellinger). She survives.
Arthur graduated from Bremen High School in 1940. He worked for the US Postal Service in Bremen for 38 years, started as a rural carrier in 1952, and served as Postmaster for 16 years. After retiring as Post Master, Art worked for 18 yrs at the Sprig O’ Mint Golf Course in Bremen.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Bremen, Masonic Lodge F&AM 414, he was a 33 degree Mason, member of South Bend Scottish Rite. US Army WWII Veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946. Member of 40 & 8, life member of Bremen VFW Post 8972, Bremen American Legion 191, Moose Lodge 741 in Plymouth.
Survivors include wife Patricia Hiester of Bremen, 2 daughters: Brenda (Roy) Roberts of Atlanta, GA and Mary Kay (George) Stemple of Valparaiso, 1 son: Charlie (Chris) Hiester of Bremen, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 brother: Wendell (Hazel) Hiester of Lansing, MI, 4 sisters: Gretchen (Dean) Kimble of Bremen, Berniel (Bill) Butler of Niles, MI, Llana Huff of Indianapolis, Jane John of Bradenton, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: David W. and Mahlon.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 7, 2008, at the First United Church of Christ in Bremen and will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Doug Busby.
Interment will be at the Bremen Cemetery with Military Graveside Services
Visitation will be 2-6 PM on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen with a Masonic Service at 5:30PM Sunday.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or First United Church of Christ.
