Gustave "Gus" Duehmig

July 13, 1937 — November 2, 2005

Gustave "Gus" Duehmig, age 68, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. On July 13, 1937, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, he was born to Eugene and Genieve (Murphy) Duehmig.

Gus was the manager for General Telephone, retiring in Ft. Wayne after 29 years of service. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and received his B.S. from Indiana University. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was Director of the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation, Chairman of Ecology Committee, Member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Member of the Supervisory Committee of General Federal Credit Union, Director and Past President of the Syracuse Lake Association, Member of the Syracuse Lions Club, Melvin Jones Fellow, Lions International Foundation Past Secretary. Past President of the Ft. Wayne Central Lions Club, Member of the Syracuse Board of Zoning Appeals and a Member of the Lakes Orderly Development Committee.

On September 2, 1961, he married Nancy Bailey. She survives.

Survivors include his wife: Nancy Duehmig of Syracuse. Children: Dawn (Brad) Gardner of Goshen; Scott (Gina) Duehmig of Elkhart and Stacy (Brent) Crist of Ft. Wayne. Grandchildren: Brooke Gardner, Gaby Gardner, Leah Duehmig, Keely Duehmig, McKenna Duehmig, Shelby Crist and Cooper Crist. His Siblings: Patricia Didion of Hudson, IN., Thomas Duehmig of Ft. Wayne and Sharon Duehmig of Redding, CA. Special Family Friend: Mary Jane Bowton survives.

Services will be held 10:30AM Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at Calvary United Methodist Church, in Syracuse, IN. Rev. David Herr & Rev. David Marty will officiate. A 2:30P.M. Graveside Service will be held at Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ft. Wayne on Wed. November 9, 2005.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, and 1 hour prior to the Services at the Church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be given to the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation, Syracuse Lions Club for Seeing Eye Dog, Calvary United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
