Robert "Smokey" Haines, 86, of North Webster passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at his residence. He was born on October 12, 1921, in Clunette, IN, to Art & Ida (Detterman) Haines.
On August 17, 1945, he married Betty Baugher; she survives.
A lifetime area resident, Smokey retired in October of 1983, from DePuy in Warsaw, where he worked in Purchasing, Marketing and International Sales for 38 years. He was also employed at Ace Hardware in North Webster for 17 years. Smokey was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the North Webster American Legion Post 253 and enjoyed the Lance's Breakfast Club. He was a WWII Army veteran, in the Signal Corps.
Survivors include his Wife: Betty, his Son: Steven (Patti) Haines of Warsaw, Daughters: Mrs Cynthia (Chad) Beezley of Wilmot and Mrs. Mary Sue (Andy) Hartley of North Webster, 5 Grandsons, 5 Granddaughters, 11 Great Grandchildren and 1 Step Great Grandson, a Brother: Paul Haines of Goshen and a Sister: Helen Wagoner of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by 2 Sisters and 2 Brothers.
Services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008, at 10:30AM at the North Webster United Methodist Church. Rev. Scott Mann will officiate. Burial will take place at the North Webster Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, May 15, 2008, from 2-4 & 6-8PM, at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse. There will be military honors by members of the North Webster American Legion Post 253.
Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes or the North Webster United Methodist Church.
