Walter Ernest Germann, 84, of Wyatt passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa. He was born to Ernest and Marie (Trachsel) Germann on August 19, 1929 in Bremen. Walter graduated from Madison Township High School and went on to honorably serve his country in the army as an MP in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he married Georgia M. Clark on Valentine’s Day in 1954 at the First Evangelical Church in Mishawaka. Walter worked for Wyatt Farm Center for almost 20 years as a mechanic and truck driver. Prior to that, he drove for Germann Bulk Milk Hauling. He was a member of the Bremen United Methodist Church.
Walter is survived by his wife of 60 years, Georgia; a son, Eric Germann of Montana; a daughter-in-law, Angie Germann of Bremen; four grandchildren Erin (Nate) Yeager of Bremen, Kari (DJ Hoffer) Germann of Nappanee, and Ethan and Anthony Germann both of Montana; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Gordon of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by a son, Neil Germann; a brother, Eldon Germann; and a sister, Edna Grise.
A funeral service will be held at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 1:30 PM. Pastor Jeff Smith will officiate with burial and military honors following in the Bremen Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-6 PM at the funeral home on Sunday, May 18, 2014 and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Neil Germann Scholarship Fund (payable to the Marshall County Community Foundation) or to the family.
