Mary Helene “Chippy” (Thomas) Levernier, 89, of Milford passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare. She was born April 29, 1925 in Warsaw to Cloyse and Mary (Wallace) Thomas, she married Daniel Levernier on February 12, 1944 at Lake Wawasee; he survives.
She graduated from Milford High School in 1943, where she was a cheerleader. Mary was life member of the Syracuse American Legion Auxiliary and a life member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary of Goshen.
Mary lived most of her life in Milford. She worked as a phone operator out of high school. After marrying she was a stay at home mom. She did sell Avon and Fuller Brush at different times. In the late 50’s and early 60’s, Mary and Dan helped start the Milford Saturday night sock hops.
Mary enjoyed camping, traveling the US, Mexico and Europe for many years. She loved to read, sew and knit. She knitted many Christmas stockings and dishrags for family and friends. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were all very important and the love of her life. She loved when they came to visit.
Mary is survived by her husband of 70 years, Daniel, four children, Dana (Doug) Miller of Bremen and their family, Tracy (Julie) Miller and Cathy (Todd) Huffman of Bremen; Debra (David) Mann of Warsaw and their family, Tyrone (Mary Ellen) Mann of Colorado and Monica (Skip) Prudy of Mississippi, Thomas (Nancy) Levernier of Milford and their family; Michele Murphy, Jaime (Mitch) Hollar and Sara (Jason) Fuller of Milford, Timothy (Trisha) Levernier of Milford and their family; Jeff Levernier of Bluffton, Brandy (Jim) Coons of Florida, Heather Hampsta of Lafayette, Destiny Turner of Bremen and Brady Spencer of Milford. Also surviving are Twenty-three great grandchildren, one step great grandchild and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons, Casey Miller and Darren Mann.
Services will be 6:00 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Mishler Funeral Home in Milford.Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery at 10:00 AM Friday morning.
Memorial contributions may be given to Milford Public Library.
