Darrell W. Bales of Syracuse, passed away at 8:55PM Thursday, August 21, 2008, at his residence. He was born on February 13, 1938, in Redkey, IN, to LeRoy & Thelma (Dotson) Bales.
On July 16, 1983, he married Sharon Levernier. She survives.
Darrell moved to the Syracuse area in 1956, working at Krogers as a meat cutter before opening Bales Butcher Shop in Syracuse on August 28, 1978; where he was the owner/operator for the past 30 years. He loved meat cutting and visiting with his customers. His other love was antique cars, particularly his 1938 DeSoto, and attending car shows. He was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, 2 sons: Dan (Becky) Bales of Goshen, Chris Bales of Syracuse, 3 Daughters: LuAnn (Gary) Hershberger of Millersburg, Marcy Ernest of Goshen, Amie Bales of South Bend, IN, 4 Grandchildren, 1 Step Grandson, 1 Great Grandson, 2 sisters: Edy Wood of Redkey, IN, Ruth Myers of Albany, IN, 3 brothers: Leroy Bales, Jr., of Muncie, Bill Bales of Redkey, IN, Dick Bales of Titusville, FL. He was preceded in death by his frist wife, Pamela, in 1966 and a sister, Betty Botts.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at 11:00AM, at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse. Pastor Richard Dunning will officiate. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8PM Monday, at the funeral home, and 1 hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kosciusko County Home Care and Hospice.
