Michael Edward Berg of Bremen died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 after a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was 73. He was born on December 20, 1940 in St. Joseph, MI. Those grateful for sharing his life include his companion of seventeen years, Karen Lemon of Elkhart, and his daughters, Audra of Phoenix, AZ and Mindy of Greenville, NY. Other family includes a niece Alicia and two nephews, John and Wade. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Edward “Bud” and Ruth Berg, a brother, Jack, and a sister in law, Jane Berg.
After graduating from Bremen High School in 1958, Mike honorably served two tours in the US Navy and is a plank owner of the USS Adams. Mike was a true patriot; he enjoyed collecting US stamps, bald eagle memorabilia and World War II memorabilia, including his favorite tanks and Mustang airplanes. He also built replica military cannons, ships, and airplanes. He worked many years in the local tool and die industry and was a lifetime member of the NRA. Mike cherished many memories of family trips to Tennessee with his daughters and trips to New Mexico to visit his nephew, John, during the hot air balloon festival.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Entombment will follow at the Bremen Cemetery with military honors.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-3 PM on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Audra Berg; all contributions will be given to a bald eagle rehabilitation center, in honor of Mike.
