Ernest Elton “Al” Glant, 83, of Bremen, passed away on October 10, 2008, at Community Hospital of Bremen. He was born on October 20, 1924, in Kokomo, IN, to Ernest E. & Ruby Glant and was raised by Ernest and Marian Glant.
He married Mildred “Middy” Utzinger in Hamlet, Indiana, on August 4, 1946. She survives.
Al established Glant Funeral Home and Air Ambulance Service in Bremen in 1949, owning and operating this business for approximately 20 years. He was employed by New York Life Insurance and Warsaw/Wabash Aviation, and was a corrections officer for Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. He Graduated from Hamlet High School. He attended Mortuary College in Indianapolis graduating with a Funeral Director degree. Al served in the US Air Force in the Philippines during WWII. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Bremen where he sang in the choir for a number of years. Some of Al’s interests included being a lifetime member of the Indiana Volunteer Fire Fighters Association with the Bremen Fire Department. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, of the Bremen Masonic Lodge and a member of the Bremen Lions Club. He was a board member of the Community Hospital of Bremen and member of Marshall County Health Association.
Survivors include his Wife Mildred “Middy” of Bremen, 2 Daughters: Pat (Steve) Dunsizer of Plymouth, Pam (Jerry) Meister of Lake of the Woods, 2 sons: Dick (Sue) Glant of Bremen, Dave (Casey) Glant of High Springs, FL,
7 Grandchildren: Mindi (Brad) Blosser, Travis (Jenna) Meister, Kimberly Dunsizer, Melissa (Jerry) Sander, Keri Glant and Alex Klausner, 9 Great-Grandchildren: Macey, Madison & Brenna Blosser, Brock, Collin & Ellis Meister, Grace Gardner, Tate Dunsizer, Jared Sander, Kieran Glant. He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, Step-mother, Grandson: Matthew Glant.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, October 13, 2008, at First United Church of Christ (323 S. Center St., Bremen). Pastor Harry Clark will officiate. Private burial services will take place.
