Lester Avery, 67, of South Bend and formerly of Milford, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at his residence. He was born on April 19, 1941, in Charlotte, NC, to Eunice Virginia (Pressley) and Dean Revolt Avery.
He married Janice (Pifer) Avery, in South Bend, Indiana.
Les formerly lived in Milford and Warsaw. He was retired from RR Donnelly and Sons in Warsaw and owened LDA Consulting. Les graduated from Bourbon High School, Class of 1959, and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of AA and served as chairman of the CSO for 4 years. Les also was the Santa Claus of the Fellowship House in South Bend of which he was a member. He was a loving father and really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He liked boating, fishing and listening to country music and working in the yard. Les enjoyed spending time in the Yahoo Diabetic Chat room with many special friends who offered him much support during difficult times.
Survivors include his wife: Janice, Daughters: Donna (Todd) Metz, South Bend, Deb (Clarence) McAfoose, Warsaw, Kathy (Tom) Wilder, Ocala, FL, Julie (Jim) Bellinger, South Bend, Jill (Jason) Smith, Arizona, Sons: David (Cathy) Avery, Sturgis, MI, Derrick (Patricia) Avery, North Manchester, 37 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 3 sisters: Jackie Ochstein, Susan Gilley, Betty Avery, 2 Brothers: Joe Avery and James Archambeault. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Clyde Avery.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 5:00PM at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home in Milford. Pastors James Archambeault and Samuel Ochstein will officiate. Friends may call from 4-5PM on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made the AA Fellowship House.
