Ardis E. Manges, age 91, passed away at the Waterford Place Health Campus, Kokomo, Indiana, on Friday, March 10, 2006.
She was born on August 28, 1914, in Brazil, Indiana, a daughter of Gustav and Delia Weisshaar. On November 28, 1946, she married Lloyd Manges, who preceded her in death on July 7, 1994. Because her father was a pastor, she also lived in Culver, Syracuse and Bremen, where she graduated from high school. She attended Indiana Central College and graduated from Indiana State Teachers College (Indiana State University). Due to her love for young children, she always taught in the elementary grades. She taught for 27 1/2 years in German Township and the Bremen Public Schools until her retirement in 1973.
Ardis was very musical and played the violin and piano in her youth and enjoyed singing in her church choir. Music was always an important part of her life. She also enjoyed camping with her husband and daughters in many parts of the United States and Canada.
She was an active member of the Salem United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Cheryl and Rick Rager, Bremen and Janine and Mike Stanley, Kokomo; a sister, Helen and husband Gene Carithers, Bremen; two grandchildren, Brock Stanley from Anderson and Erin and husband Jesse Uebelhor from Ferdinand; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Stanley and Kaylee and Jacob Uebelhor. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth, and two brothers, Dwight and Stanley.
"Oh, how blessed is the promise when our spirit is set free; to be absent from the body means to live, O Lord, with Thee!" Ardis is now free of Alzheimer's and her earthly ailments and all of here on earth can rejoice.
Services for Ardis will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Bremen with Pastor Chuck Krieg presiding. Burial will follow in the Bremen Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen and 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Church.
