Doris Kathryn Getz

Doris Kathryn Getz, age 84, of Oakmont Drive in Bremen, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006, at the Bremen Health Care Center. Born in South Bend, Indiana, on August 11, 1921, to the late Eldon & Frances (Metcalf) Yoder. Doris graduated from Green Township High School in 1940, where she wa a cheerleader for 4 years. She was a member of the St. Joseph County 4-H Club and won several ribbons for her sewing skill. She was a member of the Bremen Tri-Kappa Sorority. She was united with Stanley O. Getz in marriage on November 27, 1941, in the Untied Brethren Church in South Bend by Pastor Richards. She lived in the state of New York for 2 years during WWII while her husband was serving in the U.S. Navy. Doris and Stanley joined the Zion United Church of Christ in Wakarusa in 1945, where she taught Sunday School, after their return to Indiana in 1946. Doris enjoyed sewing, pen and ink drawing and particularly loved her flowers and yard. They lived in their home in Wyatt for 41 years, vacationing in Florida for 19 years until they moved to their current home in Bremen in 1988.

Survivors include her husband: Stanley O. Getz of Bremen, a daughter: Elizabeth (Mike) Getz-Capron of Bremen and a son: Steve Getz of South Bend. 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren survive. Doris has two brothers also surviving: Robert Yoder of Hobart, Indiana and Donald Yoder of Niles, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 10:30AM at Zion United Church of Christ, 12298 New Road, Wakarusa, Indiana. Rev. Dale Speckman will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Indiana. Friends may call from 2-8PM on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen and 1 hour prior to services at the Church on Wednesday, April 19, 2006.
