Owen Balsley

Owen Lamar Balsley, 89, of Bremen, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday March 14, 2017. He was born on October 9, 1927 to Clarence and Mary Ann (Klingerman) Balsley. On October 12, 1950 he married the love of his life, Maxine (Rule). Maxine preceded him in death on March 16, 2009.  They are survived by their two sons and daughters–in-law; Larry Sr. & Bev (Farrer), and Terry & Donna (Haag), all of Bremen.  He was adored by his three grandchildren; Larry Jr. (Angie) of Indianapolis, Stacy (George) Younis of Detroit, and Peggy (James) Cronin of Syracuse, as well as, their 4 great-grandchildren; Ben Balsley, Savannah Cronin, Maurice and Tariq Younis. Owen grew up on the family farm south of town as the youngest of 11 children. He graduated from Bremen High School where he enjoyed playing basketball, running track and being one of the Charter Members of the FFA. He joined the Army in 1946 and was stationed in Japan. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Bremen to marry Maxine and start their family. Owen retired from Ristance Wire to spend more time with his family and perfect his horseshoe pitching skills. His vegetable and flower garden were a source of beauty and inspiration. Those that know and love Owen take comfort in thoughts of his joyful reunion with his wife and family that passed before him. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 18, 2017 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen. There will be a two hour visitation prior to the service and burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with full military honors.
