Otto P. Bussanmas

Otto Patrick Bussanmas, 96, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017. Otto was born November 9, 1920, in St. Mary's, IA to Valentine and Mary (McHugh) Bussanmas. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. As a member of the greatest generation during WWII, he served as a Machinist 1st Class with the 20th & 24th Landing Craft Infantry Flotilla. His flotilla landed on Omaha Beach D plus 3 and stayed 28 days on Omaha Beach. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After his service, started working in Hammond, IN, for Calumet Construction Corporation for 39 loyal years of service until his retirement. Otto was united in marriage to Arlene C. Aaby on October 10, 1945. She later passed away. He was married to Verda E. Kling in Schererville, IN on June 28, 1981. Otto is survived by his daughter Terri (Jack) Mishler of Bondurant, IA; son-in-law, Rick (Sherry) Hardy of Bremen, IN; stepson, Chuck Kling; grandchildren: Traci (Jay) Stoneburner, Margo Hardy, Amber (John) Sable, Nathan (Carrie) Mishler, Brady (Jocelyn) Mishler, Christa (Vaughn) Ross, Dawn (Aaron) Bundy, Rob (Angie) Kling, Chad (Jenni) Kling, Bodie (Shannon) Kling, and Corey (Krisit) Kling; great-grandchildren: Jaymi Stoneburner; Breann Langdon, Tyler Felten, Bailey Boyd, Aiden Aukerman, Luke Sable, Jack Sable, Olivia Sable, Olivia McBee, Riley Ann Mishler and his "adopted daughters" Mona Vessely and Barb Conkel. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Arlene Bussanmas; daughter, Sherry Hardy; great-grandson, Jack E. Sable; brothers: Paul and Frances Bussanmas; sisters: Florene Miller and Louise Bussanmas. Otto enjoyed woodworking, gardening and golfing in his free time. He traveled to Arizona in the winters for 20 years and he always enjoyed sitting on the patio on a hot summer day. Otto was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, Loyal order of Moose and the Kiwanis Club in Highland, IN. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, February 23, 2017 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 24, 2017 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with full military honors.
