Daniel J. Newton, age 59, of Winona Lake, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at the Veteran's Hospital in Marion, Indiana. He was born March 18, 1947 in Marion, IN. His parents are Stanley and Bonnie Lee (Ivans) Newton. In 1973 Daniel married Myra O'Rourke. She preceded him in death in 1989. Daniel grew up in Burket, before eventually moving to Winona Lake. He was a retired lift truck operator at Commodore Homes. Daniel was a member of Warsaw First Christian Church, US Marine Corps 1965-1968 serving two tours in Vietnam, 1st tour-1st Marine Division, 2nd tour-3rd Marine Division 9th Motor Battalion, life member of VFW Post 1342 in Syracuse where he was Past Commander 1995-1997, VFW 2nd District Jr. Vice Commander 1996-1997, 40 & 8 reaching level of Chef Dagar, Pierceton American Legion Post 258, Warsaw Moose, life member of the DAV in Goshen, 1965 graduate of Mentone High School.
Daniel is survived by his mother Bonnie Newton of Winona Lake, 2 sons, Jeff and Sam Newton of Jacksonville, AL, 2 sisters, Connie(John) Brown of Burket, Nancy (Marty) Noble of Snohomish, WA, 2 brothers, Jerry of Warsaw and Andrew of West Palm Beach, FL, 2 stepsons, Gregory and Rick Flynn of North Webster, and 2 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and his father.
A Military Graveside Service will be held 3:00PM Sunday, May 28, 2006 at Salem Cemetery in Wilmot, IN. Pastor Ronnie Sams will officiate.
Memorials for Daniel may be given to Warsaw First Christian Church.
