Joseph M. Skwierczynski

September 29, 1931 — June 18, 2006

Joseph M. Skwierczynski, age 74, of Syracuse, passed away at Kosciusko Community Hospital on Sunday, June 18, 2006, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born on September 29, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph & Mary (Pilarski) Skwierczynski.

On January 15, 1955, he married Betty Lou Velebil. She preceded him in death in January, 2005.

A retired Supervisor for the Continental Can Company in Chicago, Illinois, Joe moved from Chicago to Syracuse in 1996. He was a 1949 graduate of Kelly High School in Chicago and was a member of the New Salem Church of the Brethren in Milford. Joe was a Sargeant in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran, serving with Occupied Forces in Germany; he was also a member of the Syracuse American Legion, Post 223.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Betty Jo (Kelvin) Neighbors of Crest Hill, Illinois, and Mary Louise (Kenneth) Wash of Tinley Park, Illinois. 2 grandsons: Jason Neighbors of Plainfield, Illinois, and Robert (Jenni) Neighbors of Rochelle, Illinois. 1 great-grandson: Jack Neighbors, at home in Plainfield, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife: Betty Lou Skwierczynski (January 23, 2005).

Services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 10:00AM at the New Salem Church of the Brethren, at the intersection of 900 N and 200 E in Milford. Rev. Robert E. Rice, Jr., will officiate. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call from 5-8PM on Wednesday, June 21, at the New Salem Church of the Brethren in Milford.
