He had lived in Lakeville his entire life before moving to Bremen in 1991. On December 31, 1946, in North Liberty, Indiana, he married Vivian J. Hammaker, who survives.
He is also survived by three daughters; Rev. Cheryl Huff Slusser of Newport Pagnall, England; Sandy (Steve) Muffley and Jan (Sam) Johnson of Bremen, Indiana; two sons; Tom (Mel) Huff of Bremen, Indiana, Steve (Shelley) Huff of North Liberty, Indiana; nine grandchildren; Scott (Margie) Slusser; Corey (Rose) Slusser; Tami (Eric) Hudson; Todd (Vicki) Muffley; Amber (Matt) Reed; Eric (Kelly) Thornton; Brad (Tara) Thornton; Jerami (LoriDawn) Huff; Angie (Pat) Luecke; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Everett graduated from Lakeville High School, Lakeville, Indiana, in 1942. He also was a graduate of Purdue University, and served in the United States Army; serving in WWII for four years, where he fought in the European Theater. He then began his career as a union carpenter as a 51 year member of Carpenters Local 413, retiring in 1986. Everett began the Building Trades Program at LaVille High School, and was also the Apprentice Coordinator for Carpenters Local 413 for 12 years.
Everett’s faith and his family were very important to him. He was a member of Faith Christian Chapel (the former Lakeville Christian Church) in Lakeville, Indiana. Everett was an Elder Emeritus, taught Sunday School, and before beginning his fight with Huntington’s Disease, was very active in his church. He was a member of mission teams that traveled to Haiti, Jamaica, California and Texas. He imparted his strong faith in God with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and set an example for them all to live their lives by.
He and his wife, Vivian, hosted four foreign exchange students that he remained close to and traveled to see in their homelands several times. They also owned several lake cottages throughout their marriage; the last being a cottage on Riddle’s Lake in Lakeville, Indiana, where they were able to spend 15 years enjoying time there with family and friends.
Everett was a member of the Bremen American Legion, and a former member of the Lakeville Lions Club, the Lakeville Pistol Team, and was a former 4-H Youth Leader.
The family would like to thank Julie Beguin and Kelly Thornton for the compassionate care they gave in helping to care for Everett.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Faith Christian Chapel, 20876 Pierce Rd. in Lakeville, Indiana, with the Rev. Kim Landrum officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation has taken place and burial will be private in the Bremen Cemetery.
