Lavon grew up on a farm and learned everything from milking cows, to plucking chickens to bailing hay. She also worked at Tatels in Bremen as a seamstress. After Tatels, Lavon enjoyed just being a homemaker and a mother. She was a great seamstress and could sew anything. She love to crochet Afghans’, needlepoint and cross stitch and often gave them as gifts to others. She loved to garden and together with her parents and her husband maintained almost an acre of all different kinds of vegetables and fruits and many, many flowers each summer. She canned, froze some, and made pickles and catsup, and much more. And the good stuff, not just the left over’s was shared with family and friends and sometimes people they didn’t even know because if someone was in need, they both were there to help out. Lavon also loved to bake and cook and at Christmas time you would have every kind of cookie, candy, and fruitcakes for months. When Lavon was no longer able to do these things, her loving husband Theodore took over the cooking and baking and cleaning up even until the day he passed away. Mom was a long time member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bremen.
