Orvis E. Sullivan, age 83, of the Lake of the Woods, passed away at the Community Hospital of Bremen on Monday, July 24, 2006. He was born in Saybrook, Illinois, on June 23, 1923, to Clay and Cassie (Bennett) Sullivan.
On May 24, 1947, he married Mildred N. Yocum. She survives.
Orvis was born and raised in Saybrook, Illinois, but lived his adult life in Lake of the Woods, Bremen. A retired Glazier, Orvis was also a U.S. Air Force WWII Veteran, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, where he received 4 Bronze Stars. He is a Life Member of the Bremen VFW. Orvis had a talent for restoring vintage bicycles and antique toys. He was someone who was unselfish; a witty man, who never met a stranger and cared for and about everyone; most important of these was his family.
Survivors include his wife: Mildred N. Sullivan, Lake of the Woods, Bremen. His children: Sally (John) Korte, Dayton, Ohio; John (Sandy) Sullivan, Plymouth; Rex (Sarah) Sullivan, Nashville, Indiana; Kerry (Paula) Sullivan, Syracuse; Rita (Bill) Leeper, Nappanee; and Lisa (Bill) Langdon of Bremen. 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren survive. Orvis was one of 12 brothers and sisters; 5 of whom survive.
Services will be held Thursday, July 27, 2006, at 10:30AM at the First United Church of Christ in Bremen, Indiana. Pastor Susan Sickelka will officiate. A burial with military honors will follow services at the Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospital of Bremen.
