Edward L. Amsden

Edward L. "Monk" Amsden, age 89, of Milford, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Lakeland Rehab and Healthcare Center in Milford. He was born on February 4, 1917, in Milford, to Vern & Pearl (Ettline) Amsden.

On September 20, 1941, he married Virginia Pease. She preceded him in death on February 14, 2002.

A Syracuse and Milford area resident, Monk spent 22 years with Liberty Coach in Syracuse and 25 years with ChoreTime in Milford. He served with the US Army, was a WWII veteran, 101st Airborne. He was also a member of the Goshen American Legion, Life member of the VFW Post #985 in Goshen and a life member of the DAV, also in Goshen.

Survivors include 2 sons: Jim Amsden of Milford and T.J. Holderman of Tampa, Florida; 1 daughter: Rhonda Burnett of Warsaw; 1 half-brother: Robert Whitmer of Nappanee; 1 half-sister: Margaret Mast of Syracuse; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 1 daughter: R. Jeanne Holderman; 2 sisters: Verne & Wanita; and 1 half-brother: Melvin.

Services will be held Friday, September 1, 2006, at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home in Milford. Military Graveside Services will follow at the Milford Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Thursday, August 31, 2006, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Milford Fire Department.
