Don K. Shaffer

December 31, 1925 — August 31, 2006

Don K. Shaffer, age 80, of Bremen, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2006. He was born on December 31, 1923, in Tippecanoe, Indiana, to Noble and Ruth (Baugher) Shaffer.

In 1954, he married L. Millicent Shaffer in South Bend, Indiana.

Moving to Bremen 49 years ago from Argos, Don and Millicent owned and operated the Bremen News Stand in Bremen. He was also a member of the Bremen Church of the Brethren and a graduate of Tippecanoe High School. A veteran, Don served with the 399th Infantry Regiment in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a POW in Germany and a life member of the DAV and of the POW.

Surivivors include his wife: L. Millicent Shaffer of Bremen; his daughter: Gail L. Shaffer, at home, in Bremen. 2 sisters: June (Hubert) Latham and Pauline Witmir, both of South Bend and a brother: Glen Shaffer, of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Bruce Shaffer, 3 brothers: Jack, Max and Bill Shaffer and a sister: Beverly Gorbitz.

Services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2006, at 11:00AM at the Bremen Church of the Brethren, 403 S. Montgomery Street, Bremen, Indiana 46506. The Reverend Tom Hostetler will officiate. Full Military Honors will be carried out at the Graveside Service at the Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7PM on Friday, September 1, 2006, at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Bremen Church of the Brethren or to Hospice of Marshall County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend.
