Katharine Maria Brazel

Katharine Brazel, age 92, of Ligonier, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2006, at Avalon Village, in Ligonier. She was born on November 2, 1913, in Arcola, Indiana, to Irvin and Emma (Hissong) Bair.

On November 28, 1935, she married Russell Brazel. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2004.

A lifetime area resident, Katharine owned and operated the Brazel Bait Shop on Lake Wawasee for many years. She was a member of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel and a graduate of Albion High School. She enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting and fishing, especially ice fishing. Katharine was also an avid bowler at Wawasee Bowl for many years.

She is survived by 1 daughter: Lexie Jane (William) Sylvester of Goshen; 2 sons: Walter Lee (Anne) Brazel of Ligonier and Jack Russell (Sandee Lynn) Brazel, of Kimmell, Indiana. 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 brother: Arthur Bair of Upland, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Russell, 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2006, at 10:30AM at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse. Pastor Harlan Steffen will officiate. Burial will follow at the Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, Indiana. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00PM on Monday, September 4, 2006, at the funeral home.
