Everett Eugene "Luke" Missman, age 91, of Indianapolis, formerly of Bremen, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at Spring Meadows in Indianapolis. He was born on September 20, 1915, in Woden, Iowa, to Charles A. and Edith (Latham) Missman.
In 1945, he married Gertrude R. Kunz. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2001. Luke was devoted to Gerda, lovingly caring for her several years prior to her death.
Luke was born in Woden, Iowa. He was encouraged by his immigrant, farming parents to go to college. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1937. Luke worked for many years in Chicago, raising his family in Glen Ellyn. The family moved to Bremen in 1961.
He was a CPA, former accountant and office manager for Package Masters in Bremen, a member of the First United Church of Christ in Bremen, First Methodist Church, Kiwanis, and a US Army WWII Veteran. Luke was an active member of each community in which he resided. His passion for volunteerism included active engagement with PTA/PTO organizations in Glen Ellyn, IL; Officer/Member of the Bremen Kiwanis; Bremen Town Council Member; School Board Member; and a Marshall County Community Foundation Advisory Board Member. Upon his retirement, Luke was pleased to be able to volunteer for various local agencies.
Luke was loved by all and will be sadly missed by all of his devoted family, including 2 Daughters: Barbara (Michael) Horvath of Bloomington, Indiana, Susan (Bill) Johnson of Speedway, Indiana, 3 Sons: Thomas (Pam) Missman of St. Charles, Illinois, Daniel (Mary) Missman of Nashville, Tennessee, Douglas (Susan) Missman of Sunbury, Ohio. He passionately supported his children in all of their endeavors. Luke had 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren who he loved, cared for and played with in the best of grandfatherly traditions. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, 3 Sisters: Florence, Esther and Eleanor and 2 Brothers: Harold and Chester.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 11:00AM at the First United Church of Christ, 323 S. Center Street, in Bremen. Pastor Susan Sickelka will officiate. Miltiary Graveside Services will follow at the Bremen Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
