Velva Berniece Firestone, age 91, of Goshen, formerly of Syracuse, passed away at Greencroft Healthcare in Syracuse on Sunday, November 26, 2006. She was born on January 14, 1915, in Stanley, Wisconsin, to Frank & Mae (Grindle) Brown.
On December 9, 1933, she married Lawrence L. Firestone. He preceded her in death in 1981.
A lifetime Syracuse resident, Velva was formerly employed with Essex Wire in Ligonier and Topeka. She was a member of the Syracuse Church of God, Dewart Lake Friends Women's Group and the Bible Study Group of North Webster.
Survivors include 2 Daughters: Sue (Carl) Freel and Vicki (Tom) Hoover, both of Syracuse, 3 Sons: Robert (Nancy) Firestone and John (Norma) Firestone both of Goshen, Richard "Butch" Firestone of Syracuse, 14 Grandchildren, 4 step Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 1 Son: Dennis "Deke" Firestone, 1 Sister: Jesse and 2 Brothers: Charles and Robert.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 11:00AM at the Syracuse Church of God, 104 E. Washington Street in Syracuse. Pastor Vince Wilczynski will officiate. Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8PM Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel in Syracuse.
