Wayne L. Coy, age 83, of Syracuse, passed away on January 19, 2007, at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born on November 20, 1923, in Elkhart County, Indiana, to Dewey & Iva (Kettering) Coy.
On November 10, 1945, he married Betty (O'Haver). She survives.
A lifetime area resident, Wayne retired from Syracuse Rubber after 41 years. He was a WWII US Air Force Veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, survivor of the HMS Rhona on November 26, 1943, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse, where he was a past commander, charter member of the VFW Post 1342 in Syracuse, also a past commander, member of the Syracuse Church of the Brethren, graduate of Syracuse High School, lifelong Cubs fan and a Syracuse Little League coach of 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Syracuse, 3 Sons: Douglas (Linda) Coy of Syracuse, Michael (Cathy) Coy of Syracuse, Dave (Susan) Coy of Syracuse, 11 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Ralph.
Military graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 11:00AM, at the Syracuse Cemetery. Pastor Vince Wilczynski and Pastor Brad Cox will officiate. Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8PM on Monday at the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, in Syracuse.
