Delbert O. Hanlin, 81, of Leesburg, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007, at Lakeland Rehab Center in Milford. He was born on October 27, 1925, in
Mount Storm, WV, to Clarence & Maude (Cosner) Hanlin.
On September 19, 1946, he married Hilda Stouter; she preceded him on September 23, 2006.
He grew up in Mt. Storm, WV, and he lived in Virginia, Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania; moving to the Leesburg area 6 years ago. Early in his life he was a Brakeman on the B&B Railroad, he was a Forrest Ranger and Shortwave radio operator for the government in Virginia and California, he was a Shoe cutter for a shoe factory and a Business Manager for a church camp in Maryland; however, most of his life he was a Church of the Brethren Minister where he served many churches some of which include: Crab Run in Virginia, Lebanon in Virginia, Swan Creek in Woodbury, Pennsylvania, Center Church of the Brethren in Louisville, Ohio. He was a graduate of New Windsor High School in New Windsor Maryland, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1952 from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA, he received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1955 from Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago and he received his Master’s Degree in Sociology from Kent State University. He was also a licensed Realtor specializing in assisting young first time home buyers.
He was a Church of the Brethren Minister serving many churches over the years, former President of the Louisville Ministerial Association in Louisville, OH, former member of the Board of Directors of Kiwanis International, former President of the Fulton County Migrant Association for several years, and was a former counselor with youth and adults on Skid Row in Chicago.
Survivors include his son: Earle (Kelly) Hanlin and his daughter: Carol Hanlin both of Leesburg, 5 Grandchildren: Sabrina Moore of Leesburg, Sarah (Anthony) Slatter of Louisville, KY, Samantha Moore of Louisville, KY, Michael Hanlin and Nicholas Hanlin both of Leesburg, 3 Step-Grandchildren: Chandler Tenney, Brittney Tenney and Chase Tenney all of Leesburg, 2 Great Grandchildren: Aiden Moore of Leesburg and Aereli Slatter of Louisville, KY, and 1 Sister: Jessie Bobo of Mt. Storm, WV. He was preceded in death by: his parents, his wife Hilda and 1 Brother: Paul Hanlin.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Locust Grove Church, in Mt. Storm, WV, with the Rev. Owen Stoltz officiating. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery, Mount Storm, WV. Friends may call 1 hour prior to Services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to The Student Scholarship Fund of Manchester College in Mr. Hanlin’s memory.
