Amber Louise Blackford

August 21, 1961 — November 16, 2025

Amber L. Blackford, 64, of Leesburg, passed away at 3:15 am. on November 16, 2025, with her husband and daughter-in-law by her side. Amber was born on August 21, 1961, the daughter of the late William Russell Watson and Ernestine Watson. Amber was well-known for her big personality and a laugh that could light up a room. She often wore a smile when visiting loved ones, and she had a special ability to make others feel seen and cared for. She also had a love for animals, having owned several dogs throughout the years. Amber had a passion for traveling with her husband, Russ, and together they visited all 50 states and 22 countries—making many friends on the road along the way. Amber earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Manchester College in 1993, then continued her education by earning a law degree from Valparaiso University in 1996 and an MBA from Indiana University South Bend in 1998. She practiced law for 25 years in Kosciusko County, dedicating much of her career to helping abused women and children. Amber was a strong, independent woman in every sense of the word. Her strength carried her through life’s challenges and made her a pillar within her family and community. She was someone many people turned to for advice, encouragement, or simply the comfort of her honesty and wisdom. Her guidance was trusted, her perspective was valued, and she had a way of offering the best advice—always from the heart. Amber is survived by her loving husband, Russell Blackford of Leesburg; daughter-in-law, Danialle Blackford of Mexico, Indiana; stepsons, Jack and Gary Miller; stepdaughter, Emily Grams of East Jordan, Michigan; bonus daughter, Amy Delap of Warsaw; sisters, Tanya (Steve) Wood of Leesburg, Linda Mounsey, Barbee Lake; and Cheri Summers of Sun Lakes, Arizona. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Amber was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Tara Miller; and her stepsons, Russell Jr. and Ryan Blackford. Amber donated her brain for the study of early-onset Alzheimer’s—a final, selfless gift that will advance research aimed at preventing others from facing this terrible disease. A memorial service for Amber will be set at a later date.
