Beverly Joan Villars, 90 of Bremen, Indiana passed away peacefully on October 2, surrounded by loved ones.
Joan was born on January 26th, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Doris and Clinton Hargrove. Joan was a graduate of Hammond–Clark High School. Joan was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Griffith Indiana where she was a youth counselor. Her time as youth counselor made a lasting, lifelong impact on many of the young lives that took part in the Methodist MYF program. Joan was very proud of and loved “Her kids” and kept in touch with many of them over the years. Joan moved to Huntington Beach, California where she resided from 1979 to 1995 before returning to Bremen, Indiana to be closer to family and where she lived until her passing.
Joan is survived by her 3 sons, Scott & Beth (Schlemmer) Villars of Bremen, Indiana, Michael & Nancy (Ricks) Villars of Winfield, Indiana and Matt Villars of The Woodlands, Texas, 5 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, her sister Pat Fett and daughter-in-law Shannon Villars.
Joan did not wish to have a memorial service but simply wanted to post a favorite poem in her memory:
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free.
Miss me a little… but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me… but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan,
A Step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me… but let me go.
