Calvin Eugene Koontz, 96, of Plymouth passed away at 5:20 am Friday September 30, 2022, peacefully at his home. Calvin was born September 7, 1926, in Bremen to George Washington Ambrose and Dora Mae (Zentz) Koontz. On December 31, 1946, in Niles, MI he married Evelyn Lucille Huff. Calvin was a graduate of Bremen High School Class of 1945. He was a farmer and laborer. He was a member of American Legion Post 191 of Bremen, Marshall County Historical Society, and the Bremen Masonic Lodge 456 for over 50 years. Calvin loved to garden, canning his own homegrown produce, raising zinnias, telling stories, collecting family genealogy information, baking cookies and pies, and chatting with anyone he might meet. He is survived by four children, Gregory Koontz of Morgantown, IN, Kendall Koontz of Bremen, Maureen (Jerry) Isenberg, Washington, IL and Elizabeth (Ron) Baumer of Cambridge City, IN; 17 grandchildren, Adam (Angela) Koontz, Kristin (Brad Parker) Koontz, Jonathan (Lisa) Koontz, Matthew (Deanna) Koontz, Joshua (Karrin) Koontz, Caleb (Kirsten) Koontz, Aaron (Taryn) Koontz, Casey (Ciara) Koontz, Dakota (Jennifer Apple) Koontz, Betsy (Vic) DeNardi, Sarah (Michael) Bachman, Nathan (Hannah) Isenberg, Heidi (Jonathan) Koski, Mari Isenberg, Teresa (Cory) Hill, Andrea (Ryan) Wright, and Jessica Boicourt. He is also survived by 25 great grandchildren, Calvin D. Koontz, Dylan, Daniel, Zachary, Alexis, and Emilyn Koontz, Chloe and Noah Koontz, Easton, Braxton, Leighton, and Kamryn Koontz, Lincoln Koontz, Lavender and Cordelia Bachman, Levi Isenberg, Anna and Benjamin Koski, Brandt, Leah, and Charlie Hill, Luke and Taylor Wright, and Olivia and Eli Boicourt as well as one great great grandchild, DeLiah Koontz. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn, son, Robin Koontz, 3 brothers, Rolland, Lowell and Warren Koontz and 2 sisters, Donna Hand and Bontia Koontz. Visitation will take place from 9-11 am, Thursday, October 6, 2022 in Mishler Funeral Home 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the funeral home. Rev. Mark Black will officiate, and burial will take place at the Bremen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Bremen American Legion Post 191, Marshall County Historical Society, Bremen Historical Society, Heart-to-Heart Hospice, 1178 Fremont Ct Suite 2, Elkhart, IN 46516. The family would like to thank family, friends and neighbors who helped with Calvin the last few months. A special thank you to the staff of Heart-to-Heart Hospice.
