Carol Ann Hartman

April 1, 1942 — May 30, 2023

Carol Ann Hartman was born on April 1, 1942, to Raymond and Ruth Ann Simmermeyer as the oldest of four children.  She graduated from high school in 1960 from Boston, IN where she met Rex Louis Hartman, whom she married September 17, 1961. Family was very important to Carol: she was always a strong supporter of her grandchildren, for whom she attended plays, concerts, graduations, and weddings for two of her three grandchildren; family camping trips were an annual summer event; baking cookies around the holidays was a joy that the family always looked forward to and something she passed on to her daughter, daughter-in-law, and  granddaughters; she taught her oldest granddaughter how to play badminton during one of those many summer camping trips; her love of cows and ice cream always brought a smile to people’s faces (the love of ice cream was passed on to the entire family!); and she couldn’t have been prouder of the people that her two children grew up into and became throughout their lives!Faith was also extremely important to Carol; she attended First English Lutheran Church in Mishawaka where she and her husband had been proud members of the congregation and served on the church council or as delegates to synod assembly, and she encouraged and shaped the faith of her children and grandchildren.Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Ruth Ann Simmermeyer; two sisters, Janet Love and Linda Simmermeyer ; nephew Gregg Simmermeyer; and husband of almost 50 years, Rex Hartman. She is survived by her brother, Jim Simmermeyer of Richmond IN; son, Richard (Melissa) Hartman of Fort Wayne IN; daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Hartman of Bremen IN; three grandchildren, Rebecca (Taylor) Norberg, Minda (Matt) Hartman, and Jonathan (Elyse) Hartman; and several  nieces and cousins.Visitation will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 10:00 am -11:00 am, with a Funeral service to follow at 11:00 am at the First English Lutheran Church, 16495 Ireland Rd Mishawaka, IN 46544. Pastor Patrick Ballard will officiate. Cremation will follow and her ashes will be buried in Richmond, Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to either First English Lutheran Church of Mishawaka or to Pet Refuge, Inc in memory of Carol.
