Charles Edward Lutes, 89, of Mishawaka, formerly of Bremen, IN, died at 9:30pm on Monday, December 1, 2025 at the Brickyard Nursing Home. Born February 14, 1936, in Nappanee, IN, he was the son of Herman C. and Violet L. (Buhrt) Lutes. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was employed many years at Bremen Castings, and later as a wood worker for Bremtown Cabinetry. After his retirement he enjoyed going to auctions, handcrafting wooden tractors, and selling his creations at various craft shows. Survivors include two daughters: Ronda Heyse and her husband Ron of Bremen, and Miranda Lutes of Bremen; four grandchildren: Trevor Lutes of Nappanee, Corrina Correll of Titusville, FL, Ryan Balsley of Bremen, and Rodney Balsley of Bremen; a brother, James A. Lutes of Greenwood, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert Lutes. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm on Friday, December 12, 2025 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen, with Pastor Dwayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Bremen Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of the U.S. Navy and the Bremen American Legion Post #191. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until the hour of service on Friday, December 12 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions to be made to Mishawaka Troop Town Inc.
