Curtis Michael Coil, 58, of Bremen, passed away on February 21, 2024 at home. He was born on August 29, 1965, in LaGrange, IN. Curtis's family soon realized that he had several special needs that would require life-long care. What they did not realize at the time was what a special person Curtis would become. Even without the ability to use language, Curtis was a skilled communicator and had a great sense of humor. He connected with people and touched hearts. In 1992, Curtis became one of the first residents of Birkey Group Home in Bremen, IN. He lived a rich life enjoying many friends in the Bremen community and being cared for by extraordinary caregivers. They became his extended family, and he often became part of theirs. His caregivers attended to Curtis's needs with unconditional love, and he loved them back. Curtis gained a brother when he moved to Birkey Group Home. He and his roommate, Conrad, were together from Day 1 until Curtis passed away 32 years later. Curtis's family will forever be thankful and grateful for the generous and dedicated caregivers at Birkey Group Home for the wonderful life they made possible for Curtis. We would also like to thank Heartland Hospice staff and nurses for the excellent end-of-life care they provided. Curtis was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Melvin Coil, his mother, Wilma Coil, and his sister, Carol Troyer. He is survived by his sisters and their husbands, who loved him dearly, Connie and John Coleman, Indianapolis, IN, and Cathleen and Jim Nevin, Clear Lake, IN; his brother-in-law, Emmett Troyer, The Villages, FL; his aunt and uncle Mary June and Jerry Augspurger, Huntington, IN and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by many friends who shared their love and support throughout his life. For those who may wish to remember him in a special way, donations may be made to Cardinal Services of Indiana, 504 North Bay Drive, Warsaw, IN 46580, www.cardinalservices.org.
