Danny Thornton, a devoted husband, father, skilled craftsman, and avid outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026.
Born to the late Mark and Betty Thornton, Danny grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work and nature. On November 16, 1968, he married the love of his life, Ruth Hertel. Together, they shared over 57 years of marriage, building a beautiful life and family rooted in love and dedication.
Danny was a gifted carpenter by trade. He began his career working for WR Birkey before his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Thornton Construction. Through his business, he left a lasting mark on the community, known for his integrity, reliability, and master craftsmanship.
Outside of work, Danny was happiest in the great outdoors. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending time on the water, and he was a well-known figure in the Bremen area as an expert raccoon and coyote hunter. He had a deep passion for training and working with his specialized hunting dogs, spending countless hours in the woods doing what he loved most.
Danny’s greatest legacy, however, is his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; his three children, Penny (Tom) Jones, Scott Thornton, and Jaime (Andrew) Capron; his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He also leaves behind his siblings, Darrell Thornton, Dale Thornton, and Jill Holmes, along with many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Betty Thornton, his sister, Judyne Osborne, and grandson Brandon Thornton.
In accordance with Danny’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services.
