Debra Nick

September 25, 1960 — June 26, 2023

On June 26th, 2023, our faultless, fearless, and incomparable mother Debra Lynn Nick peacefully and unexpectedly passed away in her sleep at the age of 62 due to a profound and unprovoked bleed in her brain. Deb was born on Sunday September 26th, 1960, in Elkhart Indiana and is the daughter of Nick and Doris Yacuk. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother whose determination and incomprehensible capacity for selflessness and kindness rivals only the saints who have come before her. Debra leaves behind an extensive family whom she cared for without relent and was deeply invested in. Those related and dependent on her discernment and irreproachable candor include her siblings; Ron & Pam Yacuk of Houston, Texas, Chuck and Kathy Yacuk of Kouts, Indiana and Dawn Jones of Elkhart Indiana; her husband, Charles Nick of Bremen, Indiana; her children, Derek & Whitney Nick of Nappanee, Indiana, Justin and Kathleen Nick of Indianapolis, Indiana and Benjamin and Juliana Nick of Indianapolis, Indiana and several grandchildren, Logan, Jaxon, Theo, and Jonathan and many gran-pups, Koda, Miles, Eli, & Rory whom she all cherished as much as the breath she breathes. It is difficult to put to words how profound of an impact she had on her family members, co-workers, friends, community, and each and every person she ever met. Debra’s commitment to forgiveness and compassion was rooted in her love and conviction to share her faith and her beliefs that each and every one of us are created in the image of God and called to fulfill the great commission outlined by the apostle John. She made it a point to be an active member of her congregation and is one of the greatest losses to the community of Notre Dame since the passing of Ara Parseghian. She was truly beloved by the students, faculty, administrators and clergy that she had the opportunity to work with during her 15 years of travel and tourism with Anthony Travel. For 35 years she was a devote wife and steadfast mother, who above all, loved her children and earnestly taught them the principles and importance of leading a life according to the righteous teachings outlined by Christ. The book of Psalms teaches us in chapter 119 that “the word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.” This teaching is one Debra embodied and is the legacy she imparts to those she leaves behind. A legacy of joy, wisdom, and above all a light to a world that seldom imparts very little more than darkness and misunderstanding. She enjoyed the simple things in life; watching her grandchildren play, spending holidays with family, wasting no opportunity to catch up with a friend, or without embellishment enjoy the beauty of a sunset after a long day and the gentle reminder of a rainbow and the promise of peace after a fierce storm. She will be remembered as many things, but one thing she will never be, is forgotten.Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, June 29, 2023 in Bremen Missionary Church, 2958 Elm Rd, Bremen.  Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 am, Friday, June 30, 2023 in Bremen Missionary Church, with one hour of visitation prior.  Pastor Kurt Litwiller will officiate and Entombment will follow in the Bremen Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers family requests memorial contributions be made to Bremen United Methodist Daycare, 302 W Plymouth Street, Bremen, IN 46506
