Dixie Lee Pittman Sheetz was born December 9, 1947, in Bremen, Indiana. She was blessed to be the daughter of Evart and Marie Johnson Pittman of Bremen. She loved growing up on the farm with her brother Doyle. Dixie graduated from Bremen HS and was proud to be a member of the Class of 66. She enjoyed marching band, string bass in swing band, and Singing Seniors. Dixie married her high school sweetheart, Michael Lee Sheetz, on August 31, 1968, at Salem United Methodist Church in Bremen. She graduated from Manchester College in 1969 with a BS degree in elementary education, although she was the only non-music major in the college choir. She loved music! She taught fourth grade at Milford Elementary School before Mike and Dixie built a home in Bremen back on the family farm. She loved being mom to daughter Suzanna Lee, born in 1973. When Dixie returned to a career, she pursued positions that permitted her to learn public relations, event planning, and graphic design. That culminated in a position as co-director of admissions at the Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes. Participating in Bible Study Fellowship (Nappanee) and being mentored as a group leader was a turning point in Dixie’s life. Her true calling was to lead discipleship training classes for over 20 years, mostly at Nappanee Missionary Church, encouraging others in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She also loved singing in the choir, and being part of the Blended Hearts trio. Dixie and Mike built a home in Indianapolis in 2013 to be near their daughter. Her favorite travel was to Mackinac Island for the garden show, the Smoky Mountains and Cades Cove, Siesta Key in Florida, New England, and Vancouver BC. Dixie met her Savior face to face on July 7th, 2024, after a long illness in Indianapolis, blessed by the support of many caring friends. She is survived by her beloved family—husband Michael, daughter and home hemodialysis caregiver Suzanna (Mike) Dodds of Indianapolis, brother Doyle (Linda) Pittman of Hixson, TN and their children Brian (Lia) and Kim (Jeremy) Osgood. In lieu of flowers. memorial contributions may be made to Nappanee Missionary Church or to Heartland Church in Fishers, IN. A private service will be held with burial at Bremen Cemetery.
