Fred Adams

Fred L. Adams, 87, of Elkhart passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on July 5, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio to Russell and Helen (Mauss) Adams. On March 1, 1957, he married the love of his life Berdine (Malone) Adams in Elkhart. She survives along with 3 children, Gregg (Tane) Adams of Goshen, IN, Mitchell Adams of Bremen, IN, & Christine (Richard) Moskowitz of Elkhart, IN. He has 4 grandchildren; Rachel (Eric) Dickison, Chelsea (Ryan) Russo, Erica Moskowitz, Dmitri “Dima” (Rachel) Adams and has 5 great-grandchildren, Aiden Dickison, Emma Dickison, Sophia Dickison, Hailey Russo & Olivia Russo. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Joyce VanHorn, Shirley Adams, Robert Adams, & Audrey Fortier, as well as several aunts and uncles. Fred graduated from Concord High School in 1953. He honorably served in the U.S.Army from 1954-1956 as a Specialist Third Class-Technician at Fort Lewis, Washington and was in the reserves until 1962. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer & Grace Lutheran Church. He worked at the Elkhart Packing Co. now Plumrose USA Inc. and also at Gemeinhardt where he retired as a flute final finisher in 1998. In his spare time Fred enjoyed being with family, which was important to him, he loved working with his hands & fixing anything he could. He also loved being outside fishing/hunting/gardening, doing puzzles, playing Ruumikub, and playing ball with his dog Benji. He was the most hardworking, generous, Godly man who always thought of other people first before himself. His family and everyone who knew him will miss him greatly. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 & one hour prior to the service at 11:00 am on October 21, 2020 at Community Gospel Church-Bremen 68893 SR 331 Bremen, Indiana 46506, where Pastor Jordan Muck and Pastor Dan Forehand will officiate. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery next to Yellow Creek Mennonite Church at 64901 County Road 11, Goshen, IN, 46526. In lieu of flowers send memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, Grace Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.
