Harold L. “Red” Hochstetler, 89, of Bremen, passed away peacefully at 3:00 am, Saturday, February 2, 2019 in Signature Health Care of Bremen. Red was born the oldest child of Elmer and Ora (Yoder) Hochstetler on October 10, 1929 at his parents Bremen home. Red graduated from Bremen High School in 1948 and joined the U.S. Navy shortly afterwards, serving during the Korean War from 1950-1954. Upon return, he worked for the Bremen Foundry for over 40 years. Red owned and operated an electrical business for another 40 years. Red met his wife Maxine at a local square dance. They were married on August 27, 1955 and have three children; Brian (Sandy) Hochstetler of Bremen, Brad (Margie) Hochstetler of Atlanta, GA and Teresa (Mark) Kobold of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Nathan (Rachel) Hochstetler, Ryan Hochstetler, Kyle (Devon) Kobold, Loucas Kobold, Megan (Ben) Kobold-Russo and Matthew (fiancé Kelley) Kobold; and four great grandchildren, Maizen, Leland, Alexandria, and Ryker. He is also survived by three siblings, Willis (Mary Ellen) Hochstetler of Ellenton, FL, Carol Grace Rhea of Bremen and Fred (Terry) Hochstetler of Bremen. He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Phyllis Hochstetler, Rollas Hochstetler, Esta Slabaugh and James Hochstetler. Throughout the years, Red has spent much of time volunteering as a 4H shooting hunting instructor, doing whatever needs done at the VFW and spending time with the residents at Signature Health Care, where he was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2014. He is a member of the Master Gardeners Club and a longtime committee member for Dollars for Scholars and was Man of the Year for the Bremen Chamber of Commerce. Red enjoyed flying a para plane, photography and playing euchre. Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, February 7, 2019 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, February 8, 2019 in the funeral home. Burial will follow with full military rites. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be made to the V.F.W., 1750 W. Plymouth St., Bremen, IN 46506.
