Henry (Hank) W. Kiefer, 94, of Bremen, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025 at The Waters of Wakarusa. He was born June 13, 1930 in Bremen, Indiana. Henry’s desire in life was to be a servant to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. and Bertha G. Kiefer (Carbierner), sister Lucile Caroline and son Stephen Michael. Henry was a devoted family man and husband to two lovely ladies. His first love and marriage was to Janet Sue Kiefer (Ernsberger) on September 16, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2011. His second love was Gloria Mae Smith (Volquardsen) whom he married on January 1, 2014. She preceded him in death on November 21, 2024. Henry is survived by his three sons: John (Sandra) Kiefer of Bremen, James (Melody) of Elk Rapids, MI and David (Beth) of Birmingham, MI as well as Gloria’s daughter Pamela (Tom) Reed of Syracuse, IN, son Michael (Melanie) Smith of Pierceton, IN and daughter-in-law Debbie Smith of Creedmor, NC. He is also survived by his many grandchildren: Deidre (Chris Kamrath) Kiefer, Hannah Kiefer, Meredith (Josh) Stidham, Seth (Sarah) Kiefer, Claire Kiefer, Katherine Kiefer and Lillian Kiefer as well as Tabitha Varma, Heather (George) Just, Willard Lewis, Jeanette Lewis, Zachery Lewis, Ryan (Laurel) Norsmith, Michelle (Skyler) Shenefield, Brett (Dessiree) Smith, Lisa (Kanaan) Kochenspager, Brianna Smith and ten great grandchildren. Henry had three careers in his lifetime. He was a third-generation owner/operator of Spring Brook Dairy and Farm in Bremen, a Sales Representative for Investors Diversified Services, and a Real Estate Broker and Insurance Sales Representative for Richard S. Miller & Sons Inc. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School (Bremen), Bremen High School and Purdue University. Henry served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 as a Sergeant. He was a Board Member of William Walter Memorial Library of Bremen, Bremen Hospital Fundraising, and the Arrowhead Country R.C. & D. Henry was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (Bremen), Gideons International (Wawasee Camp), Bremen Junior Chamber of Commerce, Bremen Kiwanis Club, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 191 and the V.F.W. Post 8972, both of Bremen. In 2020, a room in the Bremen Community and Performing Arts Center was named “The Henry Kiefer Family Event Room” in his honor. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 State Road 331, Bremen. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, April 25, 2025 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 605 S. Center Street, Bremen. Henry’s family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given to Gideon International, Wawasee Camp, P.O. Box 101, Syracuse, IN 46567 or St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 605 S. Center St. Bremen, IN 46506.
