James Wesley Bellman, 79, of Bremen, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 in Waterford Crossing of Goshen. Jim was born on June 26, 1946, in Sturgis, MI to the late Rev. Jesse and Nettie (Rouch) Bellman. On August 7, 1965, he married Cherly K. Hardy in Bremen Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl of Bremen; three children: James “Jamie” (Amy) Bellman, Bryan (Kristin) Bellman and Kari Bellman, all of Bremen; six grandchildren: Carson (Bess) Bellman of San Diego, CA, Claire (Colton) Story of Danville, IL, Cannon Bellman of Bremen, Madelyn Bellman of Bremen, Laney Bellman of Bremen, and Morgan (Ian Shriner) Smith of Bremen and two great grandchildren: Braxton and Wrenley Shriner. He is also survived by two siblings: Mark (Janet) Bellman of Bremen and Joyce-Scott of Mishawaka. He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
He loved the Lord, his family and his church. A lifetime local businessman and founder of Bellman Oil Co., Jim was always willing to volunteer for leadership and public servant roles that included several positions within the church, volunteer fire department, The Gideons and numerous roles within clubs and business circles. Personal interests have always included drag racing, snowmobiling and Lake Michigan fishing. An avid member of South Haven Steelheaders and a Hall of Fame member of the Hoosier Coho Club with his Break Time fishing team. He always enjoyed sharing his pride in each of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 pm, Friday, March 13, 2026, in Bremen Missionary Church, 2958 Elm Rd., Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Bremen Missionary Church with Pastor Kurt Litwiller officiating. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
